The face of hunger...BE A HERO TODAY!!

"Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children who faint from hunger at every street corner." Lamentations 2:19 These 23 children do not have sponsors and live in Shanto Ethiopia.
They NEED YOU!!!
Click this link to sign up to sponsor a child  www.hopechest.org/community/shanto/sponsor .  Your $35 a month goes so far to a starving child.  PLEASE prayerfully consider how you can help RIGHT NOW before you get distracted.  May we never get so comfortable that it is easy to look the other way.  Starvation has a cure.. it is YOU! I have researched and been involved with this group for almost 2 years now.  They are legit and the money you send goes exactly where you think it does.  To feed, and help with school.  BE A HERO..it is easy!

Making Your Own DIY Day Planner! Tons of Free Tutorials & Printables!

A good planner is one that you enjoy and suits your needs.  Need a section for homeschool?  How about a blog post section to keep track of you ideas for future posts and schedule them out, as well as all the regular weekly and monthly calendar sections.  I am putting my own together and thought you might enjoy making use of all these free printables I am finding to put it together with.  Adding in fun things like smaller tear out shopping lists, pretty scrap book paper, envelope or pocket pages etc.. add in what you can't just go buy at walmart.  Make it yours!

A variety of great homeschool planners can be found at this roundup of free homeschool planners here at re we there yet?

The homeschool one I used is a simplified planner with just the daily schedule, goals, a list for attendance and list for books read, and curriculum.  It doesn't include a daily sheet for planning each day of work.  I am using the regular week planner for that.

I love these free 2012, and 2013 printable calendar fromCreative Mama This would make a really cute monthly calendar planner or scale it down to fit in your smaller day planner between your weekly pages.

For  the weekly pages I like this printable from Sofia's World

I also love the simplicity and size of this simple free printable weekly planner by Anderson Family Crew.

This great year at a glance calendar covering 2012 and 2013 is from a blog planner by Homeschool Creations and it is page 2 if that is all you want to print from it.

I have included a list of links to cute  menu planners if you want to include those as well here at Pinterest.

Once you print out the sheets you want to include you can add random pieces of scrapbook paper for notes and cuteness factor, pocket pages, dividers, and anything else you want.  Then you can take it to your local office supply store to have it bound (only $1 here for comb bound!).  Some people make their own cover from cardboard covered in scrap book paper or use a vinyl cover. You also have the option of just using a 3 ring binder or punching holes and using ring clips.

Here are two blogs who did a great job making their own.  I have included them so you can get any inspired ideas from them.

Here is one from Apple Head Threads. I love this detailed explanation on how she made hers and what she included.

Craftee Finished Dividers with Labels
Here is another crafty planner from Craftee that has great ideas for the dividers!

Check out this cute small planner with tutorial from ahhh-design

She also has a great tutorial for binding it yourself HERE!
Have fun and be sure to let me know how yours turns out or if you found any great free printables to add!

Bring On Summer! Keep The Boredom at Bay and Get It All In!

Bring on summer!!  We just came back from my daughters kindergarten graduation and that means summer is officially here!!  Watching them sing and seeing them stand up there was the sweetest thing  If Bella wasn't going next year I would be crying at the loss of these amazing teachers.  We started off our summer with 90 degree weather, a clean full turtle pool, the girlies in bathing suites, homemade popsicles, and napping in the shade!
Hoping for more of the same!  I have been giving our summer some thought.  With 4 kids and one more on the way we need some kind of a plan to accomplish what we want, keep the learning going in a fun way, skip the boredom and still get all our chores done while having a blast!  Tall order... so I have been reading different ideas on pinterest.  These are some of the things on our summer to do list!
Ride horses with Grandpa up at his house
 (just a few miles away).
Hit the zoo again with the grandparents!
As far as new ideas for how to plan our summer..
First I wanted to start a new end of the school year tradition I read about in THRIVE magazine (by Focus on the Family).  The author picks her kids up on their last day of school and takes them all to a pancake house to celebrate a year well done, talk about highlights, and set up a fun summer fun bucket list off all the fun things they want to do by summers end.  That sounds awesome to me!  However we had just eaten at a kindergarten graduation and we have no pancake house.  I do want to go out thought to celebrate the official start of our summer break and make a bucket list with the kids of all the fun things we have to do this summer!

Some other ideas for giving summer a little structure include these...
A light schedule that designates each day of the week with a theme...
Masterpiece Monday- a day to work on art, go see art, or create!
Time to cook Tuesday- a day that you plan ahead for so you and your kids can cook up some fun!
Wet Wednesday- A day for the pool, splash park, or other water activity
Thinking Thursday- fun educational day, field trip, library discovery trip, research a fun child chosen theme like dinosaurs, etc..
Family flick Friday- homemade pizza, and a good family flick for Friday night!

Other ideas  I read about include creating a daily list (with rewards) of what everyone must do 5 days a week like...
30 min reading, their chores, something physical (bike riding), practice a skill for 20 min (piano, typing, drawing, etc..).  Each to do item has a monetary value that when all completed every day (5 days a week) adds up to the amount needed for a family fun outing like the admission price to a theme park.  You can read more about that here at "Do it yourself summer camp".

How about a looser schedule like before breakfast we make beds, get dressed, pick up rooms.  By lunch we read 30 minutes, finish chores, and play with a sibling.  Afternoons can follow a theme like dinosaurs for a week.  So every afternoon we explore the topic with library trips, science experiments, field trips, and research and book reading.  The themes would all be kid picked and slotted in ahead of time.  Thinking art, the wild west, wild animals, science, and trains would all be fun themes.  The morning part of the routine would have a reward system as well meted out every weekend for a fully completed week.  For example a trip to the pool, a trip to dairy queen, etc..

I do not plan on shuffling kids here there and everywhere to every learning opportunity as I do not have the energy or the desire to spend the summer just driving my kids around.  With that being said I am looking forward to the local VBS program, and the local "college for kids" program on Fridays for my oldest.  Even those will not be an every week evernt.  We will pick the ones he is excited about and take it easy on the others.

What are your ideas for keeping boredom at bay, continuing and fostering a love for learning, and getting all the fun in?  Love some new ideas!

Homeschool and preschool Easter freebies and ideas for the week before Easter!

Every season and holiday holds exciting new options for fun things to study with your kids in homeschool.  With
Easter just around the corner I wanted to share these links to give you some fun ideas for homeschool this week.

What's In The Bible
Veggie Tales creator's blog "What is in the Bible" series for Easter week "What is Holy Week".
A great explanation of all the church history that goes with this week.  A great way to focus on Christ this Easter season and learn Biblical history.

Easter lent garden
Make an Easter lent garden with your kiddos as a visual parable.  You complete different parts on the corresponding days of Holy Week.  It has clear detailed directions.  This one is from an EXCELLENT blog called A Holy Experience written by a homeschool mama who wrote the book called One Thousand Gifts an amazing book on gratitude.

Easter theme ideas for #homeschool from @1plus1plus1
You can find a ton of Easter and Spring printables for tots here at 1plus1plus1equals1. It is GREAT homeschool blog with tons of printables, great ideas, and inspiration.

Here are some great learning activities and ideas from  the blog We are That Family to make sure Easter is celebrated for what it is...a celebration of Christ's Resurrection. Teaching our kids the reason we celebrate is a great way to spend your homeschool day.

Great printable worksheets for Easter from Mama's Learning Corner that work for pre K to 2nd grade.

This is an Easter learning roundup that includes crafts, worksheets, games, etc... from My Delicious Ambiguity.  She has a lot of fun things on her blog so you will have to check it out.

Two Teaching Mommies has a great lesson plan with a ton of free printables to go with it.  There is a printable memory verse with picture, worksheets, number maze, clip cards for math, etc... Hope you have some fun with it!

Two Teaching Mommies has created a 12 days of Easter lesson plan as well that coincides with  resurrection eggs for a 12 day lesson on Easter for your kiddos.  What a fun way to go through the meaning of Easter with your little ones and have them really get it.  They recommend combining Days 5-9 have been combined for those that are younger and will find the topic of Christs suffering too much to spread out over those days.  So you still have time to get this lesson done before Easter!

I hope this has helped you get a few new ideas for the week before Easter, so you and your kids can enjoy the deeper meaning of Easter and learn at the same time.
